HOW IT WORKS

In a perfect world, the IRS would just integrate directly into our API and allow taxpayers to use their tax transcript information via our API from the IRS' own website. Unfortunately there is no such option available directly from the IRS at the moment, so we're providing an alternative solution.

We provide a Google Chrome Browser extension that allows taxpayers to use information directly from their tax transcripts. Below are the ways we enable taxpayers to use their tax transcript information.

AVAILABLE DATA ELEMENTS

Below is the list of data elements we can extract from a transcript.

  • Anonymous Id Token.
  • Social Security Number.
  • Social Security last 4 digits.
  • Full Name.
  • First Name.
  • Last Name.
  • Full Address.
  • Street.
  • City.
  • State.
  • Zipcode.
  • Annual Income.
  • Marital Status.
  • Tax year (ie Current As Of).

SHARING INFORMATION WITH THIRD-PARTIES

Following these steps, a taxpayer can select, encrypt and share information with a third-party via our API.

  • 1. Install Extension

Taxpayer installs our Google Chrome browser extension from the app store.

  • 2. Get Encryption Key

Taxpayer gets an encryption key from the entity the taxpayer wants to share information with. We'll use this key to secure the information.

  • 3. Login To IRS

Assuming taxpayer is already signed up for the IRS Get Transcript Online service, taxpayer will login to that service.

Select Record of Account Transcript for any year taxpayer wishes to share information from.

  • 4. Share Information

Taxpayer selects the information they wish to share and submit using the encryption key.

MAKING INFORMATION CERTIFICATES

In addition to sharing information directly with a third-party, a taxpayer can generate portable digital certificates for information in their tax transcript.

  • 1. Install Extension

Taxpayer installs our Google Chrome browser extension from the app store.

  • 2. Login To IRS

Assuming taxpayer is already signed up for the IRS Get Transcript Online service, taxpayer will login to that service.

  • 3. Generate Certificate

MAKING ANONYMOUS IDENTITY CERTIFICATES

An anonymous identity certificate is a way to project trust without compromising your privacy. It is an id code that is tied to a taxpayer social security number but the code cannot be used to deduce the social security number, so there is no security risk. The code would be different for every service that needs the certificate.
